F3F Welsh Winter League Round 1

Sunday 18th .... I went to the F3F Welsh Winter League Round 1. I was due to go with Rob and the Dumpster. As usual Rob cried off as he had been to work 6 days in a row so was knackered and Dave had some stamps to lick.

Arrived at the BWLCH 9.30 to a completely flat calm day, not a breath of wind. By 11 the wind had picked up to somewhere between 10 and 20mph. We were at the back of the wrecker and the competition was on

Some of the guys waiting. Average round time was just a smidge over 30 minutes

The Dumpster couldn't make it in person but was here in spirit.

Apart from Robs, this is the only other Rotmilan I have seen. Gary Harrison had this one on rails and came a well deserved 4th. Rob would benefit from a Gary Harrison masterclass.

Another for the off.

The back of the wrecker is a daunting place to be stood with a ballasted model when the wind is light and variable. There is nowhere for landing out .

I don't think we will be seeing these for too much longer ...thank god. Nearly everybody has now  dragged themselves into the 21st century

The Results....  I managed 13th out of 19. Clearly a lot of room for improvement but I felt I was starting to get to grips with it so I reckon a few more races and I will start to make some progress.

Now for the video. The music is a blast from the past but I love it. Watch....

FVP QuadZilla..

I elected not to go out and play on a mountain with Martin (his report will follow) i decided to do something far more fun! Test FVP the quad...

A little jello effect, but that will be easy to shift with a bit of dampening. Also the blades needed to be balanced... broke 3 props so no amount of balancing will help them now!!!
A fantastic flight, reason for branch chaffing is i lost video signal behind some trees, the problem with 5.8ghz, but well worth it!

White Sheet F3F November 2012

Arrived at the top of the hill and not a blade of grass was moving and the hill was surrounded with mist.

It didn't look like we were going to get away but within an hour or so and after a few exploratory flights the comp was on. It was never going to be quick but it was F3F and it was valuable flight time during a competition which is good

More willows than you can shake a stick at. Around 50% of the gliders today were willows, and Mason still wants there to be more.Cant please some people

There was 3 generations of Cubitts about today. This is youngest Cubitt launching Robs Glider, Daddy Cubitt was doing times and grandfather Cubitt although not taking part was keeping an eye on proceedings.

Words fail me. !!

If you can think of caption put it as a comment at the bottom of the post and I may add it.

It all got a bit too much for Bobster so he took a leaf out of Dumpsters book. He was last seen heading into the distance with a fistful of wet wipes

F3F down south is so civilised. At half time there were bacon butties and coffee on offer and during the results ceremony home baked cheese cake. Life doesn't get much better

Now for the video. a combination of some slow F3F and a little sport flying. View with HD on full screen with the volume up

Back to the Bill again!!

After my last visit every time anyone mentioned Portland Bill, I sort of voluntarily spasm and start to dribble from the corner of my mouth! So thought I better get down there and slay a demon... The Bobster was as accommodating as ever (without dropping his pants) as was the legend that is John Trebble. John won’t be remembered for winning comps, he will be remembered for something far better... the ability to brush off disasters and still come out smiling. Unfortunately true to form, he lost a foamy somewhere down the bottom of the cliff (not even I volunteered for that mountaineering task) and had problems landing his willow in the fearsome rotor. However we got his Extreme up and it went rather well! My poor Viking2 was subjected to a hammering out in the 20 gusting 40 knots something it definitely is not used to. But hung together with aplomb.
Extreme away... safetly
Bobsters one ugly mother f....er of a glider. It does go very well though!

The lonely figure of John left whilst Armageddon comes in... stage right!

Check video out, i went MoM with a seagull, can only think it was a friend of the one i killed on the previous visit wanting to exact revenge! Turn it up LOUD, those kids of the 90s will love the track!

White Sheet F3F next Sunday, all i can say is.... BRING IT ON!
