Good Friday ..... NO, EFF'ing Great Friday (cont)

Good Friday ..... NO F'ing Great Friday

Steady Northerly, a little overcast but no rain and 12 degrees of centigrades. Only one place to be, Westbury.

I rocked up at midday, fortunately I knew Rob wouldn't be out until 3pm so the plan was get out , have some good flying and some laughs with some good guys and then get off home before he turned up.

As I arrived and dumped the gliders down this was the scene
Chris was getting his hand in, Colin watching before the pair go off to the car. They both return with brand spankers to maiden. Chris had a new X models Whisper and Colin had a X Models Sword.

Mark the Wig Wam is casting his eyes over the models to make sure they are all parked correctly.

This is Martins ( not me obviously ) F3J Highlight. This model is 12 years old, in mint condition and I imagine in the year 2000 it must have been state of the art. Still looks bang up to date now. I think it took all of Martins skill to get it down, he over shot a good 6 or 7 times. In the end I had to go over and and talk him down!

We didn't have the slopes to ourselves today but we did do a good job of keeping them herded up one end of the slope. There was a certain amount of satisfaction when the sink came through watching them clambering back to the slope and a couple even went down to the bottom. Ha flaming Ha!!

Colin's Sword.. Cover off, electric on and pre flights in progress. This glider flew very well from the outset of the maiden. Its got a good high wing, easy for launching and landing

Marks 4 metre Multiplex Ash 26. We reckon this glider design is a good 20 years old , similar to Roberto's hair style. But , unlike Roberto's hairstyle this Glider still looks good. This landing turned out to be a peach

Nick and Graham came up with a pair of Luna's, Flew the Luna's and then went home with the Luna's. Graham is new to the sport but by heck he's picked it up quick

Rumbey Tinkering again and below giving it one last adoring look before he chucks it off

And Finally. Robert, his RotMilan and the new Magnetic switch... see BLOG below. Unfortunately I didn't get away in time and had to listen to him while he bored everybody with the details of his new magnetic switch, this was going to save him time by eliminating the need to remove the canopy to flick the a std on/off switch. This is the same guy that has called the AA to the white horse twice because he has locked his keys in his car. Any way I watched him fumble around in his bag looking for the magnet, he then rubbed it up and down the side of the fuz for 10 minutes before it powered up, I am not convinced its quicker. Once it did get going he launched and it was clear to see he loves his new RotMilan and probably rightly so. Its ''SPAFF TASTIC''

Pursuit of perfection

One thing i cant stand is a messy install... nothing worse than seeing a nice glider, look inside the guts of the thing and see a tangled mess akin to a 1970s porno. Well the internal space on the Rotmilan ain't big! Combined with using my favourite switch left no room to bolt it down, so it was left floppy.. see photo.

Look at the switch... floating around like a braincell in martins head!

So i bought one of these... A magnetic switch smaller than a gnats cock. Activated ON/OFF with a tiny magnet out side of the model. The idea is that the canopy stays on.

Took 2 seconds to install... only problem i can foresee is loosing the damn magnet! Oh and it failing in flight and sending my Rotmilan to a world of carbon splinters.
Its in!

Now... has anybody seen that magnet? think i dropped it over there.......

A few extra pics...

A couple of extra pics from Sunday...

Have you ever seen anyone look more like a twat then that? Martin was lucky to get the Graphite down in one piece due to servo lead connector parting company... quite honestly it would of been a relief if he had totalled it, it offends my eyes!

Think I've just cum..

April Fools Day... Easterly bowl Westbury White Horse

The sun was shining, the thermals were bubbling and the wind was very light / non existent!

We were all at the Easterly Bowl Westbury, there were a few gliders with motors, there were a few trying there luck just tossing it straight off the slope and a few tried out the bungee.

There was not a great deal of time for picture taking as there was too much good flying to be done but here are the ones I did manage to get

This was the first Glider to go off the bungee. this is Mark WigWam at the controls of the Big Sting , the launcher was Robert Coles. Not sure of the reason he appears to be on his knees.

These pictures speak for themselves. A lack of ability, a lack of judgement and a lack of 21st century radio gear probably all contributed to this. Luckily all in one piece

The Gilbert.... The gliberts home made special Triggers broom.  A pretty little glider with a little motor. Just the job on a day like today.  In the background Mark and Malcolm soaking up the April sunshine.

Some more of Malc's Models. The St Models ASW28. I wonder how many of these are about. I think the black one is an Elan 200 and the epp foam one at the front is the ducted fan that was talked about last week. £50 quid from Steve Webbs servo shop and it is ready to go once you put your receiver in. I witnessed it today for the first time, it has an incredible performance

Last landing of the Day. This is the RotMilan coming in after a bungee launch that led to the best part of 40 minutes thermalling interuppted by several aerobatic displays. It has to be said that this glider is an oustanding performer and is currently snapping at the heels of the Tanga. Anyway a good final landing and good to see Rob back to landing at the Top

A fantastic day was had by all, brilliant
